Business Situation
AXA Australia needed a multi-channel e-commerce solution that would allow clients and agents to view consolidated customer profiles from their AXA Australia portfolios (various lines of business).
The solution had to support various front-end systems such as a web browser and an internal client-server application (initial step) and a personal digital assistant, a mobile phone or a WebTV device (future step) while maintaining scalability, availability and ease of modification.
Solution
Implement a Product Consolidator Architecture that resides between the presentation layer and the back-end legacy policy systems:
- From an XML request, PCA identifies, consolidates and aggregates data residing on various back-end systems and sends back an XML message to the channel from which the request originated
- Run under Windows 2000 operating system and leverage the scalable features of Microsoft COM+ and Microsoft Message Queuing technologies
Results
- Quick to market and low cost approach for subsequent integration with other legacy systems as well as next generation devices
- Provide an architecture that uses the latest Microsoft technologies, but is also accessible from non-Microsoft platforms via XML
- All source code and documentation for the architecture in a “white box” scenario
