Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena
In collaboration with Avanade, Italy’s Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena was able to create a conversion and regulatory structure using Microsoft .NET and Web Services to move large amounts of data between member banks and corporate clients that provided faster processing time and improved customer service.

Business Situation
The Consorzio Operativo Gruppo MPS is responsible for the operation and management of the telematic systems used for communication between members of the financial services institution and also with corporate clients.
The volumes of data movements within the group is significant, typically 100,000 records in 20 minutes, with individual records up to 300MB in size.
Maximum performance is required to cope with such volumes, and there is also the requirement that the systems be scalable in order to handle the peak data movements typical of end of month operations.
A new regulatory structure requires a number of consecutive phases be accommodated.
The first phase of reorganizing the corporate banking service focuses on receiving, converting and normalizing the data that arrives from the corporate clients to the Customer Connection Centre, from the consortium banks and from the public networks.
Situation
Working with Consorzio Operativo Gruppo MPS personnel, Avanade and Microsoft developed:
A solution which implements a conversion service capable of managing incoming data from the banks, and normalizing and transmitting data to the central system mainframes.
An architecture that is based on the use of Microsoft BizTalk Server – which is already an integral part of management applications developed on Microsoft .NET framework.
A suite of software tools capable of taking data in one particular structure and then outputting it in a different structure. Avanade consultants defined the objective and scope of the project and managed and implemented the conversion service.
Results
Since implementation, MPS Group has reduced data processing times from a few days to near-real time and has yielded greater flexibility and scalability for this Microsoft .NET and web services-based solution.
A unique system for the normalization of data movements and formal controls, and processing to meet the new standards.
A unique engine for all the banks – with multi-bank/multi-company functioning.
High performance guarantee and faster data transfer rates.
Scalability of architecture and capacity for transferring data between departmental and host systems.
Modular structure that allows external components to be plugged in allowing for rapid implementation of new functionality.
