Texas Utilities - Application Development case study
Texas Utilities

Business Situation
With the opening up of the Australian Gas market to retail competition, TXU identified the need for a new application to automatically route incoming messages from energy retailers through its own applications. This application needed to act as the intermediary between the customer’s gateway and the various back-end applications, as well as perform complex workflows to ensure compliance with the business rules and regulations that govern every one of these transactions.

Solution
Avanade working with the Accenture team, developed Network Services Integrator, NSI, a business critical application within TXU’s application architecture. The application was developed using BizTalk Server 2002 and the .NET framework and delivers functions including workflow management with rule based routing and switching, transaction management, exception management and business reporting.

Results

  • A flexible best-of-breed distributed application architecture that provides integrated services to the backend systems and external market participants.
  • Reduced operational costs by having a central repository for all gas B2B transactions.
  • Industry and regulatory obligation reporting in a fully contestable retail environment.
  • The provision of the integration functionality and workflow management that has significantly reduced the implementation risks and costs for TXU’s back-end systems.
