Business Situation

The customer’s primary challenge was creating a clean user interface that would be built in Microsoft Windows. Although DTI developers were very skilled in Java, they lacked the experience to design a unique-looking, efficient Windows application. Keeping the project focused, with a limited scope, and minimal customizations, created even more demands on the team tasked with building an launching this software application.

Additionally, the customer recognized other challenges that prompted them to seek outside development expertise.

Solution

Avanade surveyed the customer’s automated pricing platform product and gave a high-level estimate to replace the current technology with Microsoft technology. Avanade helped the customer design, build, and deploy a Microsoft .NET-based application. The application will utilize an online auction software development kit and un-managed C++ code in conjunction with the Windows API, ATL and COM to create an application that meets the customer’s requirements. The application will allow users to go directly to the online auction to bid on items being displayed.

The Affiliate Program portion of the application will send click through commissions on referrals and allow new user registration payment for users directed to site within the ticker who register and make a bid within a pre-determined time frame.

Results

• Faster return on the customer’s investment into the online auction ticker project.
• Functionality will allow the evolution of the application and ability to easily change while rapidly meeting the project requirements.
• Successful ticker application could be licensed or purchased and generate further revenue.
