As part of the Fujitsu Siemens Computers corporate strategy it became evident that a new collaboration solution was needed. Based on MOSS 2007, Avanade initiated development of a web based application which would provide HR and business departments with functionalities to define, plan and execute yearly salary reviews supported by bottom-up approval processes. Security was also an issue as sensitive data from databases such as payroll and employee are required with the necessary information to perform salary reviews.
Development of a solution was primarily focused in using encrypted data in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and MOSS for visualization. Users would work according to their roles on various sites visualizing data using a classical 3-tier architecture. The newly developed solution consists of custom ASP.NET pages which use MOSS controls in order to establish the same look & feel as built-in MOSS applications which helps to reduce training and increases acceptance.
The Avanade team implemented all of the Solution Architecture Release 1 features within a 3 month delivery timeframe. Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Avanade collaborated to ensure the solution adheres to corporate standards and supports the high requirements to security and data privacy. To enhance rapid adoption, usability for end-users now mirrors their previously known SharePoint environment for intranet and collaboration and an advanced technology, such as SQL Reporting Services, is being utilized for reporting.
