Buy.com wanted to scale and stabilize its Website for the increased holiday season demands. With anticipated peak order volumes of up to 10 times the normal traffic, the fourth quarter represented a critical period for buy.com’s business. The company also wanted to address system downtime—each minute of downtime could cost the company up to $10,000 in lost revenue and increased customer support costs.
Avanade lead a combined team of Microsoft MCS resources and buy.com staff to review the code, database server, and Web server. Avanade and the team developed and executed a plan for increasing performance and accommodating large amounts of traffic. Avanade also implemented system-monitoring mechanisms.
Buy.com not only met its 99.9% overall availability goal, it was recognized in the media and by Keynote Systems for its best-in-class site stability, availability, and performance during the 2000 holiday season.
