Business Situation
In preparation for taking over the management of currently outsourced aboveground operations at their mine, GCCC needed to implement a Maintenance & Repair Order (MRO) system in order to effectively manage capital equipment. Maintenance schedules were mostly managed on a whiteboard or in a spreadsheet, and it was not uncommon for a a piece of equipment (e.g. a conveyor belt) to run until failure which decreases plant output.
GCCC had already selected an MRO solution from another ISV, designed to put a formal structure around the maintenance of critical equipment, schedules maintenance based on manufacturer’s and client’s best practices, and track work in progress. However, they were not fully satisfied with their existing AX implementation partner so they decided to select a new partner to assist with the MRO implementation, requiring a team that could complete the implementation with minimal guidance from the Customer. GCCC was also not confident with the level of support offered by the intial MRO provider for their AxMRO product, so they asked for Avanade’s assistance in selecting an alternative MRO Solution
Solution
Working with the GCCC project manager, Avanade determined that upgrading the existing Axapta 3.0 installation to Dynamics AX 4.0 prior to implementing MRO would provide the best platform for future growth. Avanade was engaged directly to assist with the upgrade to Dynamics AX 4.0.
Although the upgrade to 4.0 from 3.0 is fairly standard, the challenge was to port the custom modifications made in 3.0 to 4.0. Avanade also re-installed, with modifications, a third party software (ReqLogic) within the 4.0 environment. Avanade worked with the GCCC to select the Thy: Preventative Maintenance (MRO) solution from Thy:data to replace the original AxMRO solution.
