Avanade evaluated the current intranet and the final goals of the customer and designed the goals mapped to the three key feature areas:

• Document Management
• Intranet Portal with Search Capabilities
• Networking and Team Collaboration

Results
We are building an Intranet Corporate portal with full document management functionalities using Windows2000 Advanced Server and SharePoint Portal Server 2001. The system started from the default SPPS installation and has been customized in order to give the customer a personalized graphical layout and some customized functionalities. What’s more important, we forced the system for enterprise diffusion. As SPPS is not yet an enterprise system (there is no way to distribute data asymmetrically and asynchronously), we created different local installations and merge them with a cross-indexing system. Thus is possible for a user to search locally or across all the other subsidiaries contents via a centralized global index.
