Mikron Technology Group
Business Situation
  • Unclear roadmap and vision of Lotus Notes
  • Decentralized and costly infrastructure
  • Looking for a platform that supports the Mikron portal strategy
  • Tighter integration with other Microsoft products

Engagement Description:

The high-level scope of the project is the migration of the mail and collaboration solution from Lotus Notes/Domino to the Microsoft platform while using the opportunity to consolidate the servers into one central location with the target of reducing server numbers and maintenance costs.

Results
There are a number of solid benefits that come with the implementation of a centralized Exchange 2007 as part of a collaboration platform. Beside an excellent user experience with the e-mail client Outlook 2003/2007, the high integration into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 and the Office 2003/2007 suite overall provides the next major step in collaboration capabilities that globally distributed information workers demand today.

The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is assumed to be significantly lower compared to Mikron’s existing Notes based system due to cost savings in hardware and software licenses, but also because of lower administrative effort due to a centralized infrastructure.
