The hosted airline reservation solution at Navitaire was based on the HP3000 and needed to be moved to a new platform in order meet high scalability, performance and availability business needs. Additionally, this solution required a low cost footprint in order for Navitaire to remain competitive within the travel industry market.

Solution

Avanade developed a proof of concept to model highest used functions for the Navitaire airline reservation solution in order to ensure the Microsoft platform would meet all technical requirements, using .NET and SQL Server. Avanade and Navitaire development and operational teams worked in parallel, using a blended team to speed implementation.

Results 

• Using modest sized test environment, exceeded transaction and concurrent user targets.
• Linear scalability in database tier from 5-280GB, sustaining nearly 600 I/Os/sec
• Tested up to 4000 concurrent users on commodity hardware
• Development cycles in moving from COBOL to .NET reduced by using ACA.NET
• Experiencing improved time to market and development efficiencies.
