Business Situation

QR required a website upgrade that could engage prospective travelers with accurate and timely information based around their journey needs. Traveltrain.qr.com.au would be enhanced to provide real online service, and enable customers to plan their journey with confidence through to booking their ticket(s) with other complimentary journey options. This project is the first stage of the on-line booking system, which will evolve with QR as their legacy systems are replaced and upgraded.

Solution

A custom journey planning application was built to meet the exact requirements of QR. The Journey Planner is an essential tool for planning long distance travel with QR. The booking requests are submitted to QR through a secure gateway to ensure security of passenger information and compliance with the strict Queensland Government privacy guidelines. An administration facility is accessed via a secure login and allows system administrators to update the information on the journey planning system in real time. After an alternate secure login a variety of marketing information can be downloaded and reports generated making the Journey Planner a resourceful tool for the Traveltrain marketing team.

Results

Customers are able to plan their journey based on their start location and their destination as opposed to needing to know which trains are required to complete their journey and what are the best connecting trains. The Journey Planner captures important booking information that enables sales staff to prepare more meaningful itineries and up sell customers when they make an enquiry.
