Business Situation
Seguros RGA was looking to improve the operation of its infrastructure so that it could lower operating costs, improve access to information throughout the company, and put in place a technology platform that would support planned growth. Seguros RGA also wanted to be at the forefront of its industry in terms of using technology to support their business.

 

Solution
A joint team of Seguros RGA employees and Avanade technologists collaborated to:  

  • Stabilize the company's Windows 2000 platform and implement high-availability solutions using Microsoft Cluster Services
  • Implement a database service using SQL Server 2000
  • Standardize e-mail service on Microsoft Exchange Server 2000
  • Create a user data and printer spooler service
  • Design and implement security policies (access to Internet via Microsoft ISA Server 2000), backup and restore procedures (based on Veritas Backup Exec), and an updated anti-virus system
  • Redesign the company's storage/warehouse solution on SAN Storage
  • Improve infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, and WINS
  • Establish access to corporate e-mail via the Internet using Microsoft Outlook Web Access
  • Implement adevelopment/preproduction environment with version control baed on Microsoft Visual SourceSafe

 

Results
The company was able to reduce TCO by:  

  • Improving platform management and operation
  • Increasing system availability and performance leading to improved user satisfaction
  • Improving access to information from remote locations
  • Extending platform scalability to enable future business growth & technological advantage against competitors
