​Business Situation
In recent years, Siemens AG has divested itself of certain parts of the company in order to concentrate fully on its core competences. Within the scope of these divestments, or "carve-outs", it was necessary to save extensive amounts of data had to be saved in a cost-effective manner with a simple real-time search functionality. The huge amount of data, approximately 100 TB, posed one of the biggest challenges.

Solution
Avanade and Accenture designed and implemented a solution that uses SharePoint out-of-the-box functionality. They also developed user-defined components in order to integrate RetrievalWare and NetApp search software in SharePoint as a storage system.

Results

• Search results in real time: The huge databases are now user-friendly and secure with a high-performance search function. Users can now search the databases and get a result in seconds. Before this new solution was implemented, the databases took minutes to retrieve results.
• Modularity: Extensive documentation and a high degree of automation for creating new clients facilitate the inclusion of new content with minimal outlay.
• Security and Compliance: IT & business can restrict access to integrated content and monitor searches, as well as data access.
