Business SituationThe company wanted to enable their knowledge workers to find, share and publish information more effectively. It wanted to improve productivity through seamless information management. In doing so, it was also taking the first step in building an e-business architecture. The company was responding to customers’ requests for online services.
SolutionAvanade deployed Sharepoint Portal Server 2001 in two of three domains, and customized the solution to serve all authenticated users within the three domains. This solution gives the company an easy-to-publish Intranet site based on digital dashboard technology, and its consolidated search tool will return results from existing file servers and those that are in the Sharepoint Portal Server store.
Avanade designed the taxonomy, which enabled more accurate searches between the two servers, and enabled easy navigation though the Intranet site when searching for information or updates.
End-user training on using the Document Management Systems and organising searches for more accurate results was organised.
ResultsBy providing a centralised repository of information, SAM’s business decision-making processes will be improved. The solution also saves time and offers more effective collaboration, so productivity is increased. This solution also enables future expansion with an extranet, and is a launch-pad to conducting eBusiness.
