Business SituationOne of Taronga Zoo's primary objectives is to remain a world leader in conservation, education, and research. To facilitate this, a $225 million government-funded, 12-year Master Plan program is now in place to completely redesign the Zoos. The implementation of the Master Plans will dramatically transform the way the Zoos present wildlife to their visitors and to the community.
SolutionBased on the Zoos' needs, we designed the infrastructure they needed to successfully deploy Windows XP. The Zoo had previously been running Windows 95 as its legacy operating system on a variety of different hardware brands and configurations. These computers were networked in a Windows NT domain. To maximise the client-side benefit of Windows XP machines, an upgrade to Windows 2000 Server was undertaken to take full advantage of Active Directory Services. In addition, the Zoos have moved to standardise their hardware and network interface cards. After the initial deployment of the Windows XP pilot, the IT team will migrate the rest of the organisation to the new operating system over the next six months.
