Business Situation
Unilever has grown consistently, achieving its best underlying sales growth in a decade. In the past however, complex and silo based organizational structures in region, country and production units had resulted in duplicated functions and a plethora of performance and results data in multiple formats delivered across a range of reporting periods. The result was a company unable to respond to both competitive threat and new market opportunity, incurring unnecessary operational overhead. The ultimate impact was a company losing ground to competition and missing profit and growth opportunity.
Solution
The Microsoft platform consisting of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft PerformancePoint Server 2007 integrated with SAP was selected for Unilever and the Sirius project team by Accenture and was implemented by Avanade. The Microsoft stack overcame the challenges identified by Avanade’s unique blend of first-rate infrastructure and development skills, together with the proven understanding and capability in delivering large scale enterprise based systems integration projects, made Avanade inclusion in the project team essential to its success.
Results
The implemented solutions have now enabled access to thousands of Unilever knowledge workers, giving power and insight to communities in the business that would never have had access to this information in the past. Additionally, users can access a set of standard reports, as well as, perform deep analysis against the data to perform root cause analysis across a number of different facets of the business, giving the business a unique end-to-end view of internal process through to operational execution.
This assured, aggressive and successful implementation is a stand-out project for both Unilever and its partners. It is testimony to the depth and strength of the synergistic skills, capabilities and assets across the Accenture and Avanade partnership, and the discipline and structure across the project team relationship.
