The VELUX name is derived from two words – Ventilation and Lux, the Latin word for light. The VELUX Group, which has manufacturing companies in 11 countries and sales companies in just under 40 countries, is one of the strongest brands in the global building materials sector and its products are sold in most parts of the world. The VELUX Group has about 10,000 employees. The VELUX Group head office is in Hørsholm, north of Copenhagen.

The VELUX Group is owned by VKR Holding A/S. VKR Holding A/S is a limited company wholly owned by foundations and family. The VELUX Group’s financial results are incorporated into VKR Holding’s consolidated accounts. In 2010, VKR Holding’s revenue amounted to Euro 2.3 billion and net profit for the year came to Euro 237 million. VELUX factories are certified in accordance with ISO 9001 (quality, 2008), ISO 14001 (environment, 2008) and OHSAS 18001 certification (health and safety, 2008)
