Business Situation
iGuzzini needed to create a total document life cycle management system; from filing and cataloguing to administration. The new system had to feature the ability to assign specific access rights to different categories of users for security and confidentiality reasons and also for filing and consultation purposes.

Solution
iGuzzini and Avanade developed a new Web applications environment consisting of three levels based on the Microsoft Windows DNA architecture paradigms. With a focus on SQL Server and Index Server, the system has the features of a real Knowledge Management solution and is based on Dynamic Html 1, COM components, Microsoft Transaction Server, and Exchange Server technologies.

Results
In terms of application architecture, both clients can interoperate with the same business components through different techniques. Modularity is the prime benefit of this architecture that allows the addition of new components. These additions are committed to the management of new document typologies without affecting the system's core engine. Filing, accesses administration, checking documents in and out, and filing completion notification to other users are managed by the system's common components while specific document management such as recording, identification fields filling, and document numbering are handled by specialized components.
