Borealis

Business Situation

The current Borealis network infrastructure is structured around NetWare, Windows NT and Unix to provide access to group wide systems as SAP/Exchange/Citrix/MS Office etc as well as hundreds of more or less spread client applications such as Aspen Engineering Suite etc.

Borealis management foresees a lot of future infrastructure projects e.g Exchange 2000, Thin Clients etc. Thus, in order to enable and/or reduce time to market, Borealis is looking at Windows 2000 Active Directory as their central directory services and infrastructure. This means the current directory under Novell eDirectory will be replaced by Windows 2000 Active Directory. This has led to the creation of the MiG 32 project; MiGrating from 3 to 2 OS (Win2K + UNIX).

Solution

Avanade is currently advising Borealis in the high level design of their future Win2K Active Directory structure using the Microsoft methodology and implementation process (4 phases: design, test, pilot, roll out).

Results

  • Streamlined infrastructure (3 Operating Systems reduced to 2)
  • Reduction in TCO
  • Reduced Time to Market
