Business Situation
GSPL needed a highly robust and reliable system capable of performing multiple functions including:
The system needed to handle all of the company’s major business transactions and, as such, was highly mission-critical. GSPL further required the new system be in operation by August 2003, when the gas would begin flowing from the gas fields in Sumatra, Indonesia, from its upstream provider Pertamina (the state-owned company of Indonesia).
Solution
GSPL turned to Avanade to create this solution, which is called the Gas Nomination, Allocation, and Billing IT System (GNABS). GSPL chose Avanade based on the strength of Avanade’s customer references and its ability to deliver a custom-designed system that would serve the specific needs of GSPL customers.
Avanade designed the GNABS solution using Microsoft Windows 2000, the Microsoft.NET framework, and SQL Server 2000. Avanade also utilized its Avanade Connected Architecture (ACA.NET) to accelerate development and deliver the system within schedule.
"The success in GNABS implementation has certainly changed my views on how an IT project could be developed, built and commissioned. On the software building methodology and approach, l was amazed by how Avanade could gather accurate, complete, and detailed customers requirements in such a short time; how the team built the software with precise time management; and how close the product meets GSPL’s requirements," said Wong Moh Seng, Senior Manager at GSPL. "I believe this was made possible through the use of ACA.NET and the .NET platform."
Results
The new GNABS solution allows GSPL to manage its transactions and operating budget – US$ 500 million per year – with increased efficiency and accuracy.
"I wonder at how Avanade could assemble a team of young talents on which every individual bears a common hallmark of excellent attitude, commitment, responsiveness, receptiveness, and the ability to create a balance between contractual obligations and the customer’s wishes," said GSPL’s Wong. "It gave GSPL total customer satisfaction."
