Business Situation
Our client is a European rug and carpet manufacturer and long-time Avanade customer extended its Belgian facilities with a new and fully automated warehouse to boost supply chain (cost) efficiency. Avanade’s challenge was to come up with an efficient IT architecture that would be flexible enough to guarantee a full integration between the new automated warehouse and the existing ERP platform, already managed by Avanade. Also, timing was crucial, as the custom developed warehouse application had to be ready as soon as the actual building of the warehouse was finished.
Solution
Avanade’s AMCC department, which ensures continuity of operational ERP environments, has been managing the client’s ERP platform for many years. The AMCC developed a fully customized warehouse application that seamlessly interacted with the ERP platform to optimize the supply chain and introduce a much leaner way of working. A communication protocol was set up, existing custom applications were updated and several new user programs developed to enable user-interaction with the new warehouse application. To prevent delays in customer deliveries, extensive preparation and testing was performed on the new and robust warehouse solution before going live.
Results
The new business processes supported by the warehouse application doubled the efficiency for picking and shipping in less than a month, while decreasing manual input and limiting impact on inventory. Planning of transport can now be done much more in advance and more efficiently by combining different orders and containers in shipments.
