​Business Situation

Nokia and Siemens had merged their mobile network divisions.  Before the merger, there were two separate and self-contained IT systems.  Afterwards, they had to merge and support the new business.  Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) approached Avanade and Accenture for help in addressing the technical, structural and cultural challenges that arose from the merger.

Solution
When Avanade and Accenture began working with NSN, the first step was to define a carve-out and transfer strategy to achieve this ambitious goal. During the 18-month project, Avanade helped to develop the new infrastructure, including DNS, DHCS, file systems and proxy servers.  In addition, Avanade began migrating users’ workstations.

Results More than 70,000 users in more than 400 locations in 150+ countries were migrated.  Over 7,000 servers, 80,000 clients, 200 TB of data and thousands of applications were transferred to the new environment.  Despite the epic scale of the project, the Avanade/Accenture/team got the job done with minimal interruptions to NSN’s business.  Thanks to their work, NSN was able to disconnect from both parent companies and become an independent corporation with its own 
self-contained IT.
