Business Situation
With emails becoming an exceedingly critical medium of communication at StarHub, updating the IT infrastructure was necessary. StarHub needed a messaging solution which would be reliable, efficient, and scalable. Ease of administration and management were also important criteria, as well as integration with its existing storage, backup and monitoring systems. As business continuity is essential for StarHub, it needed an infrastructure with disaster recovery capabilities too.
Solution
StarHub engaged Avanade Asia as its technology partner for the messaging project. Together with Avanade and using Avanade Connected Methods, StarHub migrated its existing Microsoft Exchange 5.5 infrastructure to Microsoft Exchange 2003.
During the first phase of the deployment, Avanade and StarHub designed and architected the system, including the disaster recovery plan and proof of concept. In the second phase of the deployment, the infrastructure was set up. And in the final phase, StarHub migrated all its users to the new system.
Results
Today, StarHub enjoys a messaging system with 100% availability, using Microsoft Clustering Services with HP Servers and Hitachi Data System’s SAN solution. More than 3,500 user mailboxes are now hosted on clustered Exchange and monitored using the Microsoft MOM Server. The new system allows StarHub employees to access their email via the Internet, for greater efficiency and productivity.
