Business SituationThe customer has a number of home grown department Intranet sites that vary in content and collaboration. This created several problems:
- Loss in employee productivity
- Increase in e-mail traffic for communication
- Branding, content and communication not consistent
- No standards or policies regarding intranet
- Various technologies and custom development
In addition, the customer was challenged by a lack of a consistent, centralized directory for employees to lookup other employees.
SolutionThe objective of the project was to create both the SharePoint foundation and a set of processes to enable the customer to achieve the intranet strategy and business results. The Intranet upgrade project included the following:

Results- Reduced reliance on customer’s Web Developers to manage and edit content. These developers can focus more on writing code.
- Improved site taxonomy allows users to find and use the content and documents that they need to get their jobs done.
- Custom developed Employee Directory, Department Directory, and People Search Web Parts provide users with improved tools for locating other employees.
- Consistent graphic design and governance process allow the Intranet team to focus on building capabilities that can be more widely re-used by the organization.
