Business Situation
- Tesco seek to continually reduce both existing and future costs of systems management and administration services.
- Implementations of Active Directory were already in the UK, Central Europe and Asia.
- Many UK projects had global dimensions and others in Central Europe and Asia needed a global design for Active Directory.
- A global Active Directory design was required in order to provide secure global 'collaboration services'.
- In addition, Tesco also wanted a migration plan to achieve Active Directory convergence.
SolutionWorking with a global Tesco team and utilizing the Avanade Solution Delivery Methodology, the team delivered an agreed global Active Directory design taking into account specific needs such as:
- Tesco's short & medium term business strategy
- Delivering design and migration decisions as soon as they become of value to current projects/parties that await final delivery
- A design that enables Tesco to maximise the realisation of benefit of implementing collaboration services, security & authentication services, object naming standards and group policies, systems management and software distribution
- The team is also providing a migration strategy.
Results A Global Active Directory design which:
- Is robust, reliable and scaleable and which meets Tesco's global needs
- Provides a migration plan that shows how and when global convergence of Active Directory services can be achieved
- Defines a migration and coexistence strategy from existing technologies and directories and which ensures business continuity
- Defines an implementation approach that is flexible enough to cater for the different time zones of the business units involved
