HNTB: Digital transformation in the engineering industry

HNTB is a leading architecture, engineering, planning and program management firm with annual revenues in excess of $1 billion and close to 4,000 employees. The firm recently reengineered its sales and project management solutions leveraging Microsoft technologies to bring the firm into the digital age. It wanted an integrated project workplan (scope, schedule, budget and resources), enterprise-wide collaboration, shared data access and improved employee technology expectations.

“The intent of our transformation program is to connect HNTB’s core business processes into an integrated solution, thereby increasing employee productivity, data quality and project performance,” said Brian Swenson, chief process officer at HNTB.

Solution

HNTB leveraged Avanade’s experience in business process design, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) to replace more than 55 unique and custom applications. The company partnered with Avanade to develop a modern IT platform based on Microsoft Dynamics AX, Dynamics CRM and Microsoft collaboration tools. These solutions are helping to automate HNTB’s project lifecycle, including sales, contracting, project management and billing.

The new digital platform is strengthening the firm’s ability to connect across all business processes so employees can more effectively bolster client relationships and deliver results.
