#Avanade20Years: A cake worthy of 20 years, baked by one of our own

What’s a party without a cake? At the Avanade Houston office’s anniversary celebration, there was one attraction that was so popular people were taking selfies with it: Avanade’s 20th birthday cake!

Linh Nguyen, Gulf Coast General Manager (and Avanade’s first-ever employee) got the idea for the cake at Houston’s holiday party, when he learned delivery management director Arti Venkatesh had a gift for baking.

“I found out that Arti is a truly amazing baker – she showed me some pictures of cake that she has done in the past,” Linh said. “I asked her right there about baking a cake for our anniversary celebration. I was so happy that she accepted.”

But Arti didn’t simply bake a cake. She and Linh took his idea, went back and forth on design, and then she created what can only be called a masterpiece. Arti explained that the three-tier cake was actually made up of six total cakes and took 14 hours to bake. The bottom layer was chocolate fudge cake with Bavarian cream filling, the middle layer was vanilla cake with strawberry filling, and the top layer was strawberry cake with cream cheese filling.

“I was super excited but also felt tremendous pressure to make the cake something exceptional,” Arti said. “Everything on the cake was edible, even the company anniversary logo on the top. I was so glad to contribute to this special occasion because I am proud to be a part of the Avanade family.”

Linh said the cake was a smash hit at the party. The attendees only finished the first layer the night of the party, and the rest of the cake was finished the next day at the office’s all-day Makeathon.

“People were amazed that it was done by one of our employees. I love the fact that we have amazing employees within our company,” Linh said. “Not only do people have awesome professional talents, but there a lot of hidden talents as well. Like the ‘family culture’ I try to nurture in our Houston community, I truly want our employees to showcase their ‘hidden’ talents.  I am just very appreciative that Arti took the time to do this – it was not just a one-day effort.”

I want to speak on behalf of someone who was fortunate to have a piece of the cake and I can say it tasted as awesome as it looked.

Great job Arti.
