This coming Saturday, developers from all over London will come together to participate in “Can you hack it?” – a hackathon hosted by Avanade and sponsored by Xamarin, a company involved in mobile cross-platform technology (iOS, Windows 8 and Android).
Supported by tech firms, this collaborative challenge will provide London’s technology talent with an opportunity to work together on mobile application development projects. However, unlike most hackathons, this event was organized to raise money to help support The Prince’s Trust.
The Prince’s Trust give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilize their lives, develop self-esteem and gain valuable skills for work. Part of an internal Avanade competition – called Zero2Hero – where Avanade teams compete to raise the most money for the Prince’s Trust, this hackathon is being led by many of Avanade’s analysts and senior analysts called the Foundation Practice. The challenge is helping members of the group to gain skills in teamwork, budgeting, planning, marketing and many other relevant talents useful to a consultant.
With the spirit of this internal competition in mind, the aim of the hackathon is to create an app that will help The Prince’s Trust promote some of its key annual fundraising events, as well as simply help them with the Trust’s day-to-day activities. All apps created during the hackathon will be donated to The Prince’s Trust.
The hackathon starts at 7:00 p.m. on the Saturday and runs through Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. in London. Teams of four to five people will be created, with skill sets and experience spread across the different groups. Then, the teams will compete against each other with the best app receiving the prize at the end of the night.
May the best team win! If you aren’t able to “hack it” with us in London, you can also help raise funds for the Prince’s Trust by donating at: https://www.justgiving.com/Avan-aid.
