Nowadays everything is getting more and more automated, whether it’s paying bills, uploading photos from your phone to the cloud or getting an alert that it’s time for your annual teeth cleaning. The same is true with software upgrades. When implementing software solutions, everyone wants to put together the best possible solution. However, ‘the best software solution’ is a broad notion which everyone interprets differently, next to that it is often based on already gained product experience.
As it is widely known, technology never stops and it is necessary to stay up-to-date with all developments in order to be competitive. Keeping track of knowledge regarding new developments is therefore a smart thing to do. The knowledge required for a project might come from a colleague. But how do you know who may have that knowledge and where to look?
Within Avanade Netherlands, we’ve answered this question with four letters: SDFG that stand for Software Development Focus Group. For several years, the SDFG has been offering employees the opportunity to share technical knowledge in a variety of areas with each other.
The sessions are centered around a catered dinner, which is a great way to connect with and hear what your colleagues are doing. Information is often shared in the form of a presentation, but everyone is free to use a format that’s suitable for them. No strict rules or cultural ties, just informal and familiar discussions.
Many topics have been discussed over the years, including various Microsoft and web technologies like Azure, Cortana, the "R" programming language and mobile application development. In addition to these interesting topics, the SDFG is the perfect way for consultants to catch up with each other. The experience is like one big family get-together and SDFG sessions perfectly support this feeling.
