Business Situation
To help improve cancer care, Ascension Wisconsin runs a tumour board program where doctors and nurses from different specialties meet to collectively review and discuss cancer cases. Due to varying and demanding schedules, they could not always physically attend meetings to provide their input. The organisation partnered with Avanade to help it create a collaborative modern workplace where employees could participate in the process anytime, anywhere and on any device.
Hear Ascension doctors talk about the success of the program and learn more about enabling the future of work to drive engagement, productivity and business value.
“[Avanade was] able to see the vision, understand what we were interested in and move quickly forward to develop a platform that we could use.”
“The most personal rewarding part of this has been both to see this project forward but also to collaborate with a great team. I also think that this is ultimately going to be a real help to patients in terms of providing them optimal care in their treatments.”
- Dr. Jonathan Treisman, Medical Oncologist, Ascension Wisconsin
Solution
Avanade conducted design thinking workshops with Ascension Wisconsin to rapidly iterate prototypes of a virtual tumour board using Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft Office 365 tools. We then developed the solution and trained employees to easily access, share, comment and collaborate on case files. Reporting capabilities allow Ascension Wisconsin to better track patient diagnoses and treatments to comply with various regulatory and grant requirements. Search capabilities allow them to quickly find past cases with similar issues to learn from past treatments.
Results
The benefits of Ascension Wisconsin’s Virtual Tumor Board are wide-ranging:
- More doctors and nurses now participate in the program, so treatment options for patients are based on a broad range of expertise.
- It helps to accelerate the time from diagnosis to treatment so Ascension Wisconsin can better track its cancer care process to inform strategies for improving patient outcomes.
- This valuable, multidisciplinary approach is now applied to four times the number of patients.
