In September 2021, Martijn Knipping started an Infrastructure & Security internship at Avanade. In 20 weeks (about 4 and a half months), he worked on his thesis about influential factors on intercloud computing. He received an 8 out of 10 for his paper and much acknowledgment from his supervisor. Now, he works full time at Avanade.

Hybrid- and multi cloud computing
Martijn studied at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Tilburg University, following a Bachelor in Business IT & Management and a Master in Information Management: “When it was time to do a graduate internship, I looked for a company where I could learn more about IT, technology and business. The combination of these elements suited my ambitions and I applied for an internship at Avanade. I became part of the Talent Community Infrastructure and decided on the topic of hybrid- and multi cloud computing. My onboarding period was a perfect start and introduction to the company and domain. I was able to partake in different workshops, such as presenting and time management.”

Intern committee at Avanade
During his internship, Martijn put together his theoretical framework and started collecting data via internal interviews and a survey: “I combined the academic aspect with the business side and wrote a recommendation for Avanade about the influential factors on intercloud computing. Next to writing my paper, I was part of the intern committee. Together with three intern colleagues, I organized a monthly activity for all interns. Events like an online cocktail workshop, an escape room and Friday afternoon drinks were appreciated by all attendees. For this role, I received time, space and budget from Avanade to organize memorable events. If you are looking for a proactive role in the intern community, I recommend that you look into the opportunities of the intern committee.”

Moving towards analytics
Finally, in March 2022, Martijn was able to start his career at Avanade as a data analyst: “I had the opportunity to choose between five different domains. Analytics had my preference and after a couple of conversations with my supervisor at Avanade, I joined the team. In the last period of my internship, I obtained several Microsoft certifications and improved my skills. Also, I was able to join Avanade at exhibitions as part of the recruitment process. Together with my career advisor, I look for opportunities and challenges to build my career. I really like the focus on self-growth and leadership and the international aspect of Avanade.”
