SpareBank1, a Norwegian savings bank, was trying to decide whether to upgrade operating systems on its servers and desktops. It needed expert help to understand the risks and potential benefits of different options. With 6,300 employees, this is a big decision with serious implications for the business as a whole.
SpareBank1 asked Avanade to provide consultancy and advice to evaluate different scenarios. Using their deep understanding of Microsoft technology, they recommended that SpareBank1 replaced Windows® Vista with Windows 7 and upgraded from Windows Server 2003 R2 to Windows Server 2008 R2. They also recommended switching from proprietary third party software to Microsoft® System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) for systems management.
This project allowed Avanade to give SpareBank1 confidence that they were making the right decision and that the benefits of the upgrade project were greater than the risks. The proposed software will make the IT department more productive and efficient and give end users more reliable, secure and effective PCs. The project also laid the foundations for a successful upgrade.
