Business Situation

For The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, consolidating its IT environment on a Microsoft infrastructure would be a daunting task, both in scope and logistics. MD Anderson had to coordinate an integrated project plan with 775 different departments and 14 semi-autonomous IS environments; schedule 18,000 employee e-mail box migrations; clean up and reconcile nearly 44,000 old user accounts; and migrate as many as 25,000 Windows-based and Macintosh-based computers.

Solution

Avanade implemented an integrated IT infrastructure based on Microsoft® technology, including directory and file and print services and a messaging platform. Avanade used its project life cycle methodology called Avanade Connected Methods for Technology Infrastructure and simplified the project’s complex logistics with its automated scheduling tool called the Messaging Migration Engine.

Results

Today, MD Anderson has a single unified infrastructure that forms an easily-managed foundation for more efficient communication, collaboration, research, administration and patient-centric care. The highly complex project finished on time and within one percentage point of budget.
