A few years ago, the question every board was asking was simple: should we be investing in AI?

That question is settled. The investment is happening. The tools are deployed. For many organizations, the productivity gains are real and they should be proud of that progress. Deploying AI at scale is not trivial. Getting people to use it, trust it and benefit from it takes genuine effort and leadership.

But something important is shifting.

What I see, across the more than 7,000 organizations Avanade works with, is a growing realization that productivity gains are the beginning of the AI story, not the destination. The organizations creating lasting advantage have moved beyond that first chapter. They are not asking how to get more from the tools they have. They are asking a completely different question: what becomes possible for our business because of AI that was never possible before?

That shift from optimization to imagination is where true transformation begins.

The first chapter of AI is over. Here is what comes next.
