Our Malaysia and Singapore teams recently celebrated Girl Geek Day to create awareness of Avanade to local students. This community outreach event took place in May and featured 40 female undergraduate students from local universities, such as Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Management University (SMU).

Team members discussed what Avanade’s mission is as a company, employee life, our dedication to diversity and inclusion and snapshots of various career journeys as a female at Avanade. A tour of the Innovation Center and breakout workshops on RPA (Intelligent Help Desk Automation) and HoloLens (Interior Design and Dinosaur Explorer) were standout experiences for the students.

The day concluded with a tea reception and the opportunity to mingle with Avanade leaders. Both the students and Avanade team members commented how the event was such an inspiration for girl geeks!

As the talent acquisition lead, I believe this event is important as it helps to share with candidates what it means to build your career with us and helps drive awareness around Avanade’s efforts to build a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Plans are underway to hold more of these type of events, where they will cover additional topics such as AI, disruptive technology and business process management.
