Business Situation
Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC) recently acquired Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) to join its growing family of leading professions in risk, strategy and people. When being integrated into a larger company, it can feel confusing and even daunting for newly acquired employees. To alleviate that feeling, MMC wanted to show a warm and welcoming experience through a new campaign, known as GoBoldly. To accompany the campaign, MMC wanted to create a next-generation employee experience by introducing an onboarding portal that JLT employees could use to make the transition into MMC’s business practice as effortless as possible.

Solution
Accenture and Avanade were engaged to create an external facing onboarding portal that could be transitioned to live internally, becoming a full onboarding experience to help guide new employees on their journey. To achieve this request, Avanade Digital Studio used the practices of design thinking to drive interactive and highly engaging planning and ideation sessions. We made sure to keep the employee experience at the heart of our design process, knowing it was the JLT employee that the site impacts the most. We co-created with stakeholders from an array of backgrounds to help quickly build a consensus and create a tailored onboarding experience.
Results
The final outcome was an immersive portal that allowed 10,000+ JLT employees to dive into different sectors of MMC’s practice as well as get a full comprehension of key information and company contacts. The responsiveness of the site ensures accessibility and use on multiple devices – an important feature given that many employees depend on mobile devices when traveling to see clients. With a successful launch, the site has continued to evolve into a growing experience with added content, news and resources.
